Homemade Play dough

playpack homemade playdough

Play dough is really fun and easy to make at home with your kids. You only need a few simple ingredients, and it’s ready in a flash. Get the kids involved, making it is half the fun! Let them choose their favourite colours, and talk about how you combine primary colours to make other colours. They can help you measure, while you discuss ‘big scoops’, ‘small scoops’, pouring, mixing, kneading. Lots of fun words to explore!

The other great thing about homemade playdough is you know exactly what goes into it, so if little ones end up with it in their mouth, you don’t need to panic.

Playdough also makes a cheap and easy gift that your child can make for their friends. Package it up with a cute ribbon or string, and maybe you can add a homemade birthday card as well.

Ingredients:

1.5 cups of flour

1⁄2 cup of salt

2 Tbsp cream of tartar

1 Tbsp oil

Food colouring

1 cup of hot water

Directions:

If you’re worried about messy little cooks, place some newspaper or cardboard down on the bench first. This allows them to mix (spill!) and knead without a fuss.

Combine all ingredients except the hot water together in a large bowl. Add the hot water and mix well. Divide into balls, add different colours to each ball, knead well to combine.

Roll it out, stretch it out, cut it out, but most of all.... have FUN! Keep in an airtight container or glad wrap, will last up to a week.
